Why did we set up Windale Community Hub?

Windale Community Hub

At Windale Community Hub in the Leys, we deliver in-house services and host projects run by the local community. Together, we are creating a safe, welcoming, free and accessible community-led space that brings people together to use their strengths to improve their lives and their community.

In our first year running Windale, we had nearly 5,000 visits!

As well as our own programmes, we collaborate with local people to host their community projects. Our activities are decided by the community: guided by a steering group of local residents, and supported by 11 volunteers.

Examples of activities run by local groups include:

  • Stay and play mornings run by Oxfordshire Play Association.

  • Breastfeeding support sessions run by Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support.

  • Community Midwives drop-in sessions.

  • Help with tech classes run by a local resident in partnership with Activate Learning.

  • Local food larders run in partnership with SYRCOX and SOFEA.

  • Bee Empowered family fitness sessions.

  • Oxfordshire African Caribbean Multicultural Association’s Talking Café.

  • Groups funded by the Leys Community Fund e.g. Oxford Clothes Hub second-hand clothes service.

  • Community activities such as Puzzles and Games, a Talking Café for residents to build friendships, a knitting group, festive events, and storytelling workshops.

Windale Community Hub is open 9-5.30 Monday to Thursday.
