Why spend several months simply travelling around, living out of a suitcase in a series of hostels, when you could be a part of a local community? That’s what attracts many students to volunteer abroad and to invest a few weeks in making a real difference to the lives of those you work with.
Making lifelong friends and being remembered by those you now consider as your second family is an unforgettable experience. Volunteer Lindsay Reed (MondoChallenge, Tanzania 2007) put it as follows: “The homestay was fantastic. I can’t rave enough about the family and the experience they’ve given me. I’ll never forget David, Mama Baraka and the kids (and the cats!). You get more out of the experience than you put in.”
