Next Tuesday (6th week) we're delighted to be hosting a screening of the documentary 'Silk Road to Guantanamo: The Story of Adel Hakimjan' (2009)
The film screening will be followed by a Q+A with the producers, including Enver Tohti (chairman of the UK Uyghur Association).
Adel Hakimjan was one of 22 Uyghurs captured in the Afghan / Pakistan border area in late 2001. Sold to American forces by bounty hunters, he was subsequently transferred to Guantanamo. In 2006, he was released to Albania after being found not guilty of terrorist activity. In 2007 he claimed asylum in Sweden fearing Chinese secret police in Albania. He is not hopeful of ever seeing his wife and three children again, who still reside in China.
