Tenteleni is an entirely volunteer-run charity that supports UK
university students to travel to placements in Kenya, Malawi, South
Africa, Swaziland and Zanzibar. Volunteers work alongside staff in
schools, children’s homes and non-governmental organisations to offer
support, enthusiasm and friendship. Both the local communities and the
volunteers themselves benefit from engaging in the sharing of skills and
ideas. Tenteleni aims to create sustainable relationships and to work in
partnership in order to enhance the educational experiences of vulnerable
children.
Some volunteers also have the opportunity to live with a local family, at
an orphanage or street children's centre - an opportunity to really get
immersed in the culture and community.
Some volunteers can also be part of a programme called 'Shiriki' (meaning
'partnership' in Swahili), that pairs a UK-based volunteer with a local
young person from the project country. They work together in their
placement(s) each day.
We are recruiting NOW for volunteers and Project Coordinators (PCs).
PCs support volunteers during the project and deal with all logistical
issues, as well as researching new placements and the future direction of
the project. Being a PC offers you a unique opportunity to gain overseas
project management experience."
